The O.F. Mossberg & Sons Mossberg 930 Pro-Series Sporting is part of Mossberg’s 930 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun lineup. These autoloaders are impressive! The 15 or so current production models group into Hunting, Tactical and Sporting models that cover a wide variety of options and needs.
But the Sporting group is a lineup of one: the 930 Pro-Series Sporting. This 4+1 has a classic scheme that effortlessly melds a blued barrel and a beautiful receiver with a sinewy walnut forend and stock with comfortable contours and excellent texturing on both parts.
The Sporting is optimized for fast performance, durability and decreased maintenance. Mossberg put friction reducing finishes on the bolt slide, shell stop and the elevator. Additionally, the company uses an anti-corrosion Boron nitride coating on the magazine tube, hammer and sear, gas piston and piston rings, which also makes cleaning easier.
The receiver is coated Cerakote for increased resistance to wear and tear and more. A beveled loading gate and a wonderfully designed elevator makes fast-paced reloads a cinch.
The Sporting has a 28” barrel and a vent rib atop straight vertical piers topped by a customizable HiViz TriComp front sight. The HiViz TriComp front sight comes with nine LitePipes. The interchangeable pipes come in white, red and yellow. Each color has three tubes of different heights for different competitive environments.
It also comes standard with a trio of Briley Accu-Set chokes: Skeet, Improved Cylinder and Modified. These three have nifty fluted snouts and a carrying case.
Moving back, you’ll find the ambidextrous tang safety and at bottom a quick-empty magazine release button. Push it, and all loaded shells drop out easily. The receivers are drilled and tapped so you can mount Picatinny rail for optics. Synthetic forend and stock models have adjustable stock drop spacer system. These guns also have a dual gas-vent system that reduces felt recoil.
Bringing up the rear is a Special Sporting Clays Stock. With it, length of pull is fixed at a comfortable 14”. But you can use the Stock Drop System to make any of five drop-at-comb adjustments to further optimize comfort.
The Mossberg 930 Pro-Series Sporting shotgun’s overall length is 48.5” and weight is 7.75 pounds.
