32 ACP Ammo History
32 ACP (or Automatic Colt Pistol) ammo was developed by John Browning and debuted with the FN M1900 semi-auto pistol in 1899. By the 1950s, 32 ACP ammo was so popular that British firearms expert, Geoffrey Boothroyd, recommended to Ian Fleming that his character, James Bond, carry a Walther PPK chambered with 32 ACP ammo.
32 ACP ammo was designed for blowback semi-automatic pistols lacking a breech locking mechanism. The low power and light weight of the cartridge allowed Browning to install a practical blowback mechanism in pocket-sized pistols that is still used today, unless the pistol is used for ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) competitions.
