380 ACP Ammo Ballistics
A popular self-defense cartridge for shooters that prefer a lightweight cartridge, 380 ACP ammo is a low-recoil rimless, straight-walled pistol cartridge introduced by Colt in 1908. It is not to be confused with .38 ACP, 9mm Ultra, 9mm Makarov or 9mm Parabellum.
Used in WWII with German officers’ Walther PPKs, 380 ACP ammo has too short of a range and lack of stopping power for it to be considered a substantial combat round, but found its place with civilian self-defense shooters. While considered a moderately powerful round compared to the .32 ACP ammo it replaced, no country retained this round in military service after World War II, and it was succeeded by 9x19mm Parabellum rounds.
380 ACP Ammo Specifications
380 ACP ammo is .355 inches (9.0mm) in diameter, extending to the neck (.373 inches, 9.5 mm) and the base (.374 inches, 9.5mm). The rim diameter is .374 inches (9.5mm) and the case length is .680 inches (17.3 mm).
