The American Classic Trophy M1911 is a really gorgeous single-action 8+1 capacity .45 ACP 1911 semi-automatic. This full-size Government frame single-stack is made in the Philippines by Metro Arms Corporation (MAC) and imported to the USA by American Eagle of Wanamassa, New Jersey. Metro Arms has an entire lineup of M1911s that combine affordability, accuracy and stellar fit and finish into one gun.
The Trophy’s specifications are fairly standard. It has just one finish option: hard chrome. Almost everything including the slide, frame, trigger, etc. appears chrome or stainless. Exceptions are the sights, which stand out as black, and the blond wood grips (described further below). In front is a red-fiber optic sight and at rear is a Novak-type two white dot sight adjustable for windage and elevation.
Between the looks and features, expect this gun to turn heads at the gun range.
This gun is essentially an upgraded American Classic II (aka American Classic Government). The ejection port is cut down and beveled and the grip has frame recesses behind the trigger.
Key dimensions for the Trophy are its 8.25” overall length, 5” throated forged barrel, 5.5” height and 1.25” width. Weight tips the scales at 37.25 ounces, befitting its 4140 steel construction. Fit and finish are sublime.
Both frame and hammer forged slide are made of 4140 chromium-molybdenum alloy steel that’s well known for its wear-resistance, strength and uniformity.
The slide has eye-leading diagonal serrations in front and back.
The trigger is triple circle ported combat trigger with a texturized front face.
The gun has nice safety features including the extended ambidextrous thumb safety and the beavertail grip that flows into the medium beavertail above it. The gun also has an exquisitely detailed skeletonized loop hammer.
The Trophy has attractive diamond pattern custom hardwood grips. The middle is burnished with the large “M” Metro Arms rondel logo. And the mainspring housing is checkered for better grip.
The imported American Classic Trophy is an excellent value 1911 with beautiful assembly, nice finish choices and custom hardwood grips that make it a compelling choice.
