The American Classic XB is a full-size high-capacity single-action double-stack semi-automatic 1911 that comes in 9 mm (17+1 capacity), 10 mm (14+1 capacity) and .45 ACP (14+1 capacity) and three finish options. Except its extra ammo accommodating greater width grip, it’s roughly the same size as the full-size American Classic Government.

The gun is designed for competition, and it is hand fitted, resulting in beautiful fit and finish. It would be easy to say this is exceptional, but in truth this is characteristic of the entire American Classic lineup.

Overall length is 8.4” wrapped around a 5” long throated forged barrel. Height is 5.4” and width is 1. 5”.

Both frame and hammer forged slide are made of 4140 chromium-molybdenum alloy steel that’s well known for its wear-resistance, strength and uniformity.

The XB has three matte finish options. First is hard chrome where most everything including the slide, frame, trigger, etc. appears chrome or stainless. Only the sights stand out as black. Next is duotone – meaning a stainless steel slide on a black frame. The third choice is blue, which is really a very dark matte blue that is almost black for both the slide and frame.

The slide has front and rear diagonal serrations. It has a mil-spec sight in front and a dovetailed sight in back.

The frame has a corner butt as opposed to the rounded corner on some frames. The ejection port is cut down and beveled and the grip has frame recesses behind the trigger.

The trigger is a triple square ported combat trigger with a texturized front face.

The gun has nice safety features including the extended ambidextrous thumb safety and the beavertail grip that flows into the long upturned beavertail above it. Also back there is a loop hammer.

The XB features diamond checkered black grips punctuated at center by the company’s large “M” Metro Arms rondel logo. Unusually, they are neither wood nor polymer but aluminum.

All the 4140 steel and various other components up weight to muzzle-flip reducing 39.4 ounces.

The semi-automatic is manufactured by Metro Arms Corporation (MAC) in the Philippines and imported by American Eagle of Wanamassa, New Jersey. The double-stack high-capacity American Classic XB is an excellent value 1911 with finish choices and custom hardwood grips that make it a compelling choice.
