Founded by Julius Gottfried Anschutz in 1856 and headquartered in Ulm, Germany, Anschutz (J.G. Anschutz GmbH & Co. KG) manufactures small and large-bore rifles and shotguns for target shooting and hunting.

Originally located in the city of Zella-Mehlis, World War II dismantled the flagship factory and displaced the Anschutz family to west Germany. Through sheer will and determination the founder’s grandsons, brothers Max and Rudolf, reestablished the organization on Ulm and since then management has remained strictly in the family.

Anschutz Models

Anschutz firearms built their name around their innovations on biathlon rifles, but have a catalog of hunting, target, and air rifles that are suitable for any situation. Some of the most popular models include the Anschutz Model 1710, MSR RX22, Model 1416 and Model 1770.

Anschutz Target Rifles

Anschutz target rifles are numbered in a two-part sequence. The first two digits indicate series, and the last two represent the type and stock configuration of the rifle: 07, 09 rifles have a light barrel, while 10 and 11 are heavier barrels, marked "Supermatch".

The 14 Series: Developed in the 1960’s, the 14 Series features a tab on the rear of the bolt that restrains the firing pin in the cocked position, acting as a safety.

The 18 Series: Introduced in the 1970’s through the late 90’s, the 18 Series features rear bolt with a tapered dome that is displayed when the weapon is cocked,. The 18 series also uses a lighter firing pin and improved trigger to significantly reduce lock time.

The 19 Series: The 19 Series, developed in the late 90’s is almost identical to the 18 series but features a dovetail attached to the barrel with screws.
