The upcoming Q3 2020 Angstadt Arms MDP-9 is a roller-blowback operated 9 x 19 mm semi-automatic HK SP5 type gun. For the uninitiated, this means it falls somewhere between a semi-automatic pistol and an AR in size. Presumably, MDP stands for Modern Defense Pistol. The MDP-9 comes from small arms manufacturer Angstadt of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The MDP-9 has a monolithic receiver with a fairly long Picatinny rail across the top. Interestingly, it also has a short five-slot Picatinny rail at back where the brace would normally be. However, side folding and telescoping brace options are also available.
These guns use a roller-delayed blowback. This system is lighter and smoother with a lower recoil than an AR-type gun. Speaking of which, the gun is compatible with AR-components and Glock 9 mm double-stack magazines. Color choices include black, FDE and tactical grey.
The 3.6 pound MDP-9 is encompassed in an overall length of 14”. The 3-lug barrel is 5.85” long. Most of the barrel sits in a short black aluminum handguard with M-LOK slots and QD mount points.
