Arsenal Incorporated’s SAM7K is a 7.62x39 mm chambered semi-automatic with American and Bulgarian origins. Look at it long enough, and the Soviet AK-47 ancestry becomes apparent though this is a much more modern type. The M7 series is part of the long line of Arsenal’s evolutions of the AK series, and the “K” denotes the gun’s rear Quick Detach port that connects to braces such as the CNC Warrior Pistol Brace. And when you’re not using one of those, you can also install an optional QD sling swivel.

The SAM7K features a hot die hammer forged receiver blank painstakingly fashioned through 5.5 hours of milling. This is done by the parent company Arsenal Co. of Bulgaria with modern Steyr tools. Arsenal uses hammer forging since it aligns the metal, strengthens the steel and eliminates internal voids (tiny bubbles) creating fantastic durability. Other hammer forged parts include the barrel, bolt carrier, and bolt.

The gun’s hammer forged barrel is 8.5” long and sits below the gas block. The barrel is 4-groove rifled with a 1 to 9.44” twist ratio while both chamber and bore are hard chrome plated. In front you get a removable one-piece muzzle break that’s fastened via 24x1.5mm right-hand threads. Other key dimensions include a compact 17.5” total length. Arsenal specifies overall weight at 5.65 pounds unloaded.

The forend’s upper and lower handguards and pistol grip are tough, durable black polymer. The forend has vertical grip serrations while the grip has horizontal ones. You also get a stainless-steel heat shield. The pistol grip has improved ergonomics with a slight palmswell that compares favorably to the straight leg grips of many other models. The gun also features a bayonet lug, accessory lug, side-mounted scope rail and an ambidextrous safety lever.

The SAM7K comes standard with a 10-round black polymer magazine. You’ll immediately notice its waffle exterior reinforcing structure. Maximum range is 1,200 yards, and muzzle velocity is 1,969’ per second. Thus, rounds should cover that range in about two seconds.
