Arsenal Incorporated’s SAM7R Las Vegas Rifle SLR-107 Series is a 7.62x39 mm chambered semi-automatic. This specific limited-edition lineup from 2015 honors Arsenal’s partnership with the Boy Scouts of America. Arsenal donated $100 of each gun’s new sale price to the BSA.

There are three guns in the lineup: Gun Metal Black Medallion Edition, of which just 150 were made, the Silver Medallion Edition (100 made) and Gold Medallion Edition (50 made). All are identical except one thing: the medallion that proudly wears the word Arsenal atop the famous Las Vegas diamond logo. Each sports a medallion embedded on the stock’s right side. It’s a high-relief solid-silver medallion. Each looks great but wears a different finish. Thus, the first model’s lineup has a gun metal black finish, the second a silver finish and the third wears gold.

The SAM7R’s AK-47 ancestry becomes apparent though this is a much more modern type. The M7 series is part of the long line of Arsenal’s evolutions of the type, and the “R” denotes the SAM7R’s standout feature: its side rail (but you can also think of it perhaps as denoting the rifle profile) that’s affixed so you can add optics. The heatshield under the handguard is a nice-looking piece of work with agreeable contours flourished with long horizontal and a few short vertical serrations.

In back is an intermediate-length trapdoor buttstock. Its length-of-pull sits between the traditional short AK’s length of pull and something you’d expect on an AR-type.

The SAM7R features a hot die hammer forged receiver blank that’s then hewn with 5.5 hours of milling at parent company Arsenal Co. of Bulgaria with its modern Steyr tools. Arsenal hammer forges to align the metal, strengthens the steel and eliminates internal voids (tiny bubbles) creating fantastic durability. Other hammer forged parts include the barrel, bolt carrier, and bolt. If you’re picturing a giant burley guy with a massive Thor-like hammer and an anvil, hammer forging isn’t like that at all, but rather a giant machine that bars are fed into, that hammer away internally and pass the hammer forged bar out the other side!

The forend and pistol are both polymer. The forend has vertical grip serrations while the grip has horizontal ones.

The gun also features a bayonet lug, accessory lug, side-mounted scope rail and an ambidextrous safety lever. The handguards are tough, durable black polymer, and you also get a stainless-steel heat shield. The black polymer pistol grip has improved ergonomics with a slight palmswell that compares favorably to the straight leg grips of many other models.
