Arsenal Incorporated’s SAM7SF CA California Compliant Rifle is an all-black 7.62x39 mm chambered semi-automatic AK-type. This 10+1 mates a 16.33” chrome-lined barrel and milled receiver to a right side-folding tubular buttstock. Overall length is 38.2” and empty weight is 8.5 pounds. The SAM7SF’s modernized AK-47 ancestry is immediately apparent in both look and feel, though this Bulgarian version is far sturdier and more durable than the Soviet Cold War originals. The gun’s 16.33” long barrel has 6-groove rifling and a 1:9.44” twist ratio.

In front is a muzzle brake affixed via a 24x1.5mm muzzle thread. Next, the heatshield under the handguard is a nice-looking piece of work with engaging contours flourished with a few grip serrations. The pistol grip itself is upgraded over the normal straight-leg grip Arsenal puts on many of its guns. This one has a nice palmswell and horizontal grip serrations. In back is tubular buttstock backed by a concave serrated buttpad that folds back to the right.

The SAM7SF features a hot die hammer forged receiver blank painstakingly fashioned through 5.5 hours of milling at parent company Arsenal Co. of Bulgaria. They also make the barrel, bolt and bolt carrier with the same tools and process. Arsenal uses hammer forging since it aligns the metal, strengthens the steel and eliminates internal voids (tiny bubbles) creating fantastic durability.

The gun also features a bayonet lug, no accessory lug, side-mounted scope rail, cleaning rod, cleaning kit, sling and oil bottle. Oh, it also has an ambidextrous safety lever. The handguards are tough, durable black polymer, and you also get a stainless-steel heat shield. The black polymer pistol grip has a nice straight leg grip Arsenal also uses on many other models.
