The Arsenal SLR-104UR SBR Quad-Rail S 5.45x39.5mm semi-automatics descend from the original Soviet AK-47 Kalashnikov. But the SLR-104UR ups the modularity with its quad-rail plus short-barrel rifle configuration.

Arsenal imports and makes guns based on parts made in the Circle 10 Factory, Arsenal of Kazanlak in central Bulgaria. Arsenal started up in 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada where it remains to this day. It makes and sells a lineup of shoulder-fired, gas-operated, magazine-fed semi-automatics based on 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm (.223 NATO), and 5.45x39.5mm calibers using forged, CNC milled or stamped receivers. Many people swear Arsenal’s AKs are the best.

The gun’s PR-03 Precision Picatinny Quad Rail Krink Handguard System is by Arsenal. It’s a beautiful piece of high-quality skeletonized piece of lightweight aluminum work 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock direction slots. Its MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny modularity means you can affix most anything you want to it. Interestingly, the top rail is shorter, with nine slots, while the three other directions have 14 slots apiece. Also, all four rails have numbered slots making positioning and repositioning so wonderfully easy. You can attach lasers, optics, flashlights, forward grips and more in just about any optimal way. The component weighs about a pound.

The 8.5” length barrel is hammer-forged, and chrome lined for durability. Inside four grooves corkscrew at a 1:7.8” twist ratio, so each round does a little more than a full rotation before exiting the barrel with a bang. Exhaust gases vented from the barrel are used to power the system. In back is a long, triangular bar folding stock. Overall length is with the stock fully extended and locked into place is 28.86”. But fold it back, and the length is only 19.37”. The all-matte black gun weighs 6.1 pounds empty.

This semi-automatic’s receiver is stamped rather than milled, but it still feels great. The gun has a 2-stage trigger, a short gas system and a front sight block / gas block combination setup. Using the stamped receiver is what keeps the weight so low compared to similar other products from Arsenal that use the milled ones.

The company’s magazines are very durable with plenty of metal/steel reinforcements at the bottom, along the inner curved frontstrap, at the feed lips on top, etc.
