The Arsenal SLR-106 F 5.56x45mm semi-automatic rifle is a part of Arsenal’s SLR-106 lineup. Its main stand-out feature is its Picatinny quad-rail handguard we’ll describe in a moment.

The SLR-106 has impeccable Soviet AK-47 Kalashnikov DNA. But it uses a side folding polymer buttstock in lieu of the wooden originals. The gun uses a stamped receiver rather than a milled one Arsenal uses in many of its other guns.

The barrel is hammer-forged, and chrome lined for durability. It has a 6-groove 1:7” twist ratio. Exhaust gases vent from the barrel to power the system.

The gun’s focus is its PR-03 Precision Picatinny Quad Rail Krink Handguard System crafted by Arsenal in-house. It’s a beautiful piece of high-quality skeletonized piece of lightweight aluminum work with slots in 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock directions. Its MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny modularity means you can affix most anything you want to it. Interestingly, the top rail is shorter, with nine slots, while the three other directions have 14 slots apiece. Also, all four rails have numbered slots making positioning and repositioning so wonderfully easy. You can attach lasers, optics, flashlights, forward grips and more in just about any optimal way. The component has been designed with sealing caps and attaches via machined tabs. It weighs about a pound.

Another key feature is the gun’s 2-stage fire control group (FCG).

The SLR-106 F’s receiver uses a stamped receiver instead of the solid billet it uses for some of its other models. Early AKs had stamped receivers, but with the manufacturing technology of the late-1940s and early-1950s, these were superseded by solid billet receivers that were painstakingly milled. Then later, Arsenal was able to realize improvements in the stamped receiver process that make such guns lightweight and accurate.

The company’s magazines are very durable with plenty of metal/steel reinforcements at the bottom, along the inner curved frontstrap, at the feed lips on top, etc.

In addition to all the above, the SLR-106 includes a 24mm muzzle brake, stainless steel heat shield, a cleaning rod and a cleaning kit.

Arsenal imports and makes guns based on products made in the Circle 10 Factory, Arsenal of Kazanlak in central Bulgaria. The parent company was founded in 1878 and has over 4,000,000 square feet of production and office space. The company makes both guns and ammunition.

Its American subsidiary Arsenal started up in 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada where it remains to this day. It sports a lineup of shoulder-fired, gas-operated, magazine-fed semi-automatics based on 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm (.223 NATO), and 5.45x39.5mm calibers using forged, CNC milled or stamped receivers. Many people swear Arsenal’s AKs are the best.
