Up for auction is an English "W Moore Co" side by side double barrel muzzleloading shotgun. Overall Good Condition. Appears that all parts are original, patina thru out, strong "two position" hammers, lock is mechanically fully functional. 26" Barrels, 42.25" Overall Length. No signs of pitting or corrosion on barrels. There is a small crack across the tang at a screw hole. Gun had original nice engraving and checkering, both of which are well worn today.
This gun has the following English Proof Marks from the Birmingham Proof House, (1) Preliminary/Temporary Proof, (2) Inspector Proof Marks, and (1) Final Blackpowder Proof Mark. Additional markings include two Inspector initials (F.H. & F.P.) with three hash marks beside them, and what appears to be FF9 on the back of the trigger guard. From the research I have done, I would date this gun as being manufactured sometime between 1868 and 1872.
This would make a very nice wall hanger, or after a thorough inspection by a gunsmith, I would not rule out shooting this one.
