Description for Item # 329453832

This is an excellent US Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol manufactured by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut in 1836. .54 caliber smoothbore, 8 1/2" barrel. Has original brass blade front sight and correct oval shaped rear sight incorporated into the barrel tang. Original swivel steel ramrod with threaded end. All original iron mountings. Original brass flash pan is excellent and the touch hole is un-messed with and clean. This pistol is still in original flint in every respect. Frizzen spring is still strong and frizzen functions perfectly and is tight. Lock plate is marked "US/R. JOHNSON/MIDDN CONN/1836." Still has strong "JH" cartouche on the left stock flat, which is the mark of Armory Sub-Inspector James Hannis, who inspected arms from 1836 until 1851. Walnut stock is excellent for its age with no cracks and only normal use dings and scratches. Remarkably free of pitting except for trigger spine and left side of the barrel band. Screws are crisp and do not appear to have ever been removed, let alone buggered out. This 1836 probably saw Mexican War service as it was one of the principal side arms at that time. The 1836 Flintlock is considered by many to be the most beautiful American Military Handgun ever made. This weapon appears fully functional and hammer spring is strong and functions perfectly in half and full cock. This pistol is an antique so it can be shipped to anyone.
