US 10 INCH MORTAR SHELL – CIVIL WAR

This is a heavy artillery US ten inch mortar shell. It is US made for the heavy siege mortars used against forts, ships, towns etc. It is hollow, and would take an exploding charge. It was meant to explode over the enemies heads. There are tong holes, which were used to load the shell into the mortar. The 10 inch mortar shells are rather rare. This shell came out of the Tennessee area and was probably used by the Union Mississippi river guns.
This shell is heavy and when shipped will be around 100 pounds. $5 will be added to the bidding price so I can buy a shipping container. There is a picture of the 10 inch shell next to an 8 inch, just for comparison.
This is in really great shape and a great Civil War collectable.

It must be returned in the original condition, and insured.
