Description for Item # 330726629

Up for auction is an AMES 1906 cavalry saber,scabbard and saber attachment. This was the last of the 1860 style cavalry saber, the difference with the 1906 is that it has an iron hand guard:whereas the 1860 is brass. The "AMES"identifiers are on the right side of the blade. "A.S.Co" with the"FLAMING BOMB"-"1906". On the left side is "US" with the inspector stamp "JHC". all are correct. This saber must have been assigned to a NEW JERSEY cavalry regiment ,since it has NJ stamped into the top of the hand guard. The correct scabbard has the "SABER ATTACHMENT" ,this is what snapped on the saber chape of the cartridge or waist belt to carry the MODEL 1860 or 1906 Cavalry saber. Overall in excellent condition with legible "RIA" 190 markings. Cannot make out if last digit is a 5 or 6, and there is a "TC" underneath it. Additionally there is a heavily stamped "99",or "66" (depending on your view) on one of the straps. Overall the whole package is in excellent condition,(see photos).
