German, WW2
Original Jewish Holocaust
WW2
doll from Concentration Camp Buchenwald, stamped
This item depicted in the images
below is an original Jewish Holocaust doll from Concentration Camp Buchenwald.
This doll was belonged to Anna Schwarzman -
you can see her name and word "Buchenwald" on the back.
I
HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO RESTORE THIS DOLL IN ANY WAY. EVERYTHING IS EXACTLY THE
WAY I FOUND IT. IT WAS IN an OLD TRUNK UP IN THE ATTIC OF an OLD HOUSE THAT my
friend PURCHASED A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE DOLL IS JUST COVERED WITH AGE THE HEAD.
NECK AND BODY IS METAL THAT WAS PAINTED AT ONE TIME BUT THERE ARE SOME
RUST SPOTS. THE ARMS ARE JUST ABOUT GONE, BUT THE REAR END AND LEGS OF THE DOLL
ARE MADE OF A STUFFED MATERIAL AND IN FAIR SHAPE FOR THE APPARENT AGE. THE
CLOTHES ARE DIRTY, OLD AND RAGGED, BUT BELIEVE THEM TO BE ALL ORIGINAL.
Height of a doll is
43 cm (17 inch).
Also the doll has two German stamps - MINERVA and
GERMANY.
Estimate price for that nice item is $2600 - $2700.
STORY: This is a daughter's story about her mother Anna
Schwarzman: "My mother was a small child, probably 7 or 8 when
they entered the camps. She remembers being transferred from camp to camp. They
went from Germany to Austria to Italy and then back to Germany before the war
ended. The children learned each new country's language and promptly forgot it
when they arrived at the next camp. There was very little food, and less for
them since they did not eat unkosher meat. They mended and re-mended and
re-sewed what little clothing they had, and scavanged the local area for wood to
burn for warmth.
In Italy my mother and one of her brothers contracted TB and
were taken from the camp, and their family, and put into a health sanitarium.
They received medical care to cure them, but more importantly they got enough
rest, clean clothes and food to restore their health. My guess is that it was a
Red Cross hospital, but I have no sure way to confirm that. As soon as they were
better they were returned to the camp and their family. At the end of the war they were lucky enough to
Liberated from concentration camp."
