Respectable cash offers and trade offers welcome! Here is a rare offering. This fine rifle emerged from an estate that our customer has inherited. It is pretty much the same condition as when it left Weatherby Rifles over fifty years ago.
Typical of the early Weatherby's, this one is built using the time proven Mod. 98 large ring Mauser action. The Mod. 98 action is still regarded as the best bolt action design ever made. This action is Nazi marked with eagle markings on the floor plate and also on the right side of the receiver.
The stock is curly maple with the original 'hand cut' "Basket Weave" checkering. The stock is of the classic Weatherby cheek rest style with the Weatherby recoil pad. As you can see, the Weatherby Diamonds are present in the rosewood pistol grip cap and the forend.
The stock displays the early hand made quality in details. For example, the wood is moulded to fit and embrace the bolt release. The barreled action is not glass bedded, the metal to wood fit is nothing short of amazing, with the barrel channel and action relief cuts being as smooth as the outside of the stock with no coating or varnish.
All metal is a high polish blue. Except for the Buehler safety, all numbers match. The barrel is 24", 1/10 twist with a #1 contour. The bolt body, extractor and magazine follower are all hand damascend finished.
All of this detail in one rifle really captures an era in history of early craftsmanship that is rare.
The optics are German- Pecar / Berlin 4X81 - The scope is clear with post and crosshair. Buehler split rings and base complete the optics package.
The original work order from Roy Weatherby is included.
