Description for Item # 331847912

We have for auction a "very rare" Savage Arms Co. Model 31 Pump or Slide Action Repeating Play Rifle. This rarely encountered toy rifle was manufactured around 1929 at the Savage Firearms Company facility at Utica, NY. These unique and well designed Savage toy rifles are rarely seen today… Our auction features an exceptional example of one of these beautiful vintage Savage Repeating Play Rifles that has survived the past 84 years or better in simply fantastic condition. The rifle retains most of the original painted metal finish throughout with the balance being patina and turning plumb with some handling marks, but there are no dinges or dings! Unlike the few other examples we have encountered the rear sight is still attached. Over the past 40 years we have bought & sold hundreds of air and toy guns, and related accessories manufactured by well known firearms companys, and have only seen a handful of these rare & unusual Savage Play Rifles most of which were in very poor condition. Study our auction photographs and we think you will agree that this is an exceptionally nice example, and best of all it appears to be in perfect working condition although we do not have any of the original Savage Firearms Company manufactured ball ammo to use in it. The rifle mechanism appears to function perfectly, with good release. If you like nice quality air guns we invite you to visit our other auctions coming in the near future, we will be listing many other early Air guns including a Remington Firearms Company Model 26, and some very clean early Daisy’s as well as some high end completion guns from RWS and Feinwerkbau. Again if you like fine quality air guns you will certainly want to check out these beautys! To accompany this nice Savage Repeating Play Rifle we have a copy of the original advertisement from the 1929 # 65 Savage Firearms & Accessory Catalog that details this particular Savage Model 35 Repeating Play Rifle and its original $5 sale price. That copy will be given to the winning bidder to keep with the gun. The Savage Model 35 is a pump or slide action style rifle that loads much the same way as any standard tube fed pump action rifle. The Savage Model 35 Repeating Play Rifle is not a BB rifle, but a child’s toy rifle that shoots 3/8” Bakelite balls or projectiles. Since it was designed as a child’s toy, it is not real powerful, but designed to shoot at a distance of about 12 feet "per the original 1929 sales ad" at an indoor target arrangement. All of the markings or stampings on the gun are clear and distinct, and the factory original Savage Firearms Company wood stock with factory logo label is still applied to the stock as well. The wood also retains excellent original varnish with a couple of handling marks clearly shown in the photographs. There is a repaired split in the stock at the wrist, but regardless the repair is solid, and is perfectly functional. Based on our experience and research we believe you will find locating any similar Savage Fireams Company Model 31 Repeating Play Rifle almost impossible to find let alone another example that is factory original, and in perfect working order like this one. If you are a serious collector of Savage firearms or unique items pertaining to firearms or firearms manufactured memorabilia this would be an excellent addition to your collection. Being a child’s toy, it is highly unlikely that many of these unique & collectable items have survived in clean working order like this one… Feel free to use the Gun Broker question option provided or e-mail us directly at swcollectables@hughes.net We also invite you to visit our web site at www.k22bob.com for more quality antique and vintage firearms and sporting collectables. We ship to all 50 states. Please be sure the item or items you purchase are legal to bring into your state. This is an air rifle therefore no FFL is required for purchase. Buyers are responsible to pay shipping costs to their location. Additional photos of the item or items are available at your request. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. We usually ship USPS Priority Mail with delivery conformation and insurance, but we will ship UPS & FedEx at the customer’s request. All packages must be shipped insured, absolutely no exceptions. We accept Cashiers Checks, Money Orders and personal checks with a 15 day hold per our banks regulations. Please put the item number on your payment and a copy of the Gun Broker listing in with your payment. Contact is to be made within 24 hours of the auction closing. Payment is to be received within 7 days after the auctions close. All antique, classic, or vintage firearms & air guns are Sold Used as Is, collector’s items only. We do not guarantee the function of any classic air guns. All are sold used as is untested as collector items only. We strongly suggest having all classic firearms & air guns checked by a qualified gunsmith prior to firing to assure proper safety and function. We thank you for your interest and good luck bidding. Please be sure to check our other auctions.
