M113A1 Armored personal carrier (APC) This is the only privately owned M113 I know of. It was purchased new in 1974 direct from the manufacturer, and needed state department approval to do it. The original owner had powerful connections, to get it approved. It has never been owned by the government. It is not subject to confiscation, as are most government surplus armored vehicles, that are sold as scrap. This has a very unique history. I am the 3rd owner, or really the 2nd owner, as there was a broker involved, between me and the original owner. I have owned it since 2007. It is a 1974 model with a Detroit 6V92 diesel engine, the vehicle has been extremely well maintained, and is in almost new original condition. 800 miles, and a total of 60 hours on the engine tach. It runs drives as new. It is amphibious, and can cross lakes and streams at about 3 knots, propelled by the tracks. It can seat up to 11 fully equipped fighting men. It is normally crewed by 3, a driver, gunner, and commander. This has the upgraded A calvary armor around the commander turret. There are currently 3 gun mounts, the main gun in the turret,(a 50 BMG), and 2 side mounts for 30 cal machine gunners. It is considered by many to be the best armored fighting vehicle ever built. Very few have made it to the collector market, as the US has not released any for surplus, and may never release any. They are in active service today. Some have come back into the US form foreign surplus. Parts are available, and maybe very easy to acquire in the future, as so many will be retired. They are used in 50 countries, and over 80,000 have bee built. This one has spare maintenance parts, as well as a spare set of tracks. There is a large hydraulic rear ramp, that opens quickly, for rapid deployment, or recovery, as well as a single man door. The driver can operate the vehicle from an open hatch, or button up, and use the periscopes, or the on board view screen with 4 cameras, for a complete view around the APC. The commander also has a set of periscopes to view 360 degrees. There is to much to put into this listing, so please contact me for further information. This reserve is 150K. I have substantially more invested in this APC. The US currently pays over 2 million, for one rebuilt to new, and they don't have much more than this one does.
