Description for Item # 332165881

Civil Defense Swedish M26 Helmet LI 69, The M26 was a modernisation of the M21/18 keeping roughly the same shape, while discarding the rolled edge and the badge on the front and flattening the comb on the crown of the helmet. The M26 was primarily used by the civil defense, but a number of them were also used by the army. These helmets were fitted with two decals of the Swedish national insignia, consisting of three yellow crowns on a blue background. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In 1937, the M37 was introduced, but the m26 remained in production into the seventies. M26's produced after 1965 don't have the old leather liner, but a web cradle type liner. These helmets are referred to as M26/65. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This example lacks the decals on the side and is, therefore, a civil defense helmet. It has no markings except for an ink stamp of the Swedish crown and the following: LI (Luftskyddsinspektionen = Air Protection Inspection) 69 (Size) __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ TheLuftskyddsinspektionen (Air Protection Inspection) was founded in 1937 and the liner is of the original, pre-1965 type, so the helmet can probably be dated between 1937 and 1965. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Swedish M26 helmet. Shell is stamped LI 69 - Luftskyddsinspektionen (air protection inspection) size 72. M26 helmets were issued to the civil defence and coastal artillery. It appears that the helmet was never issued as there is no wear either inside or outside.
