Description for Item # 332175865 
 

A Collins Marine Corps machete, ca. 1942 - 45, stamped at the ricasso, "Legitmus/Collins & Co./ Made in USA No.191". D.E. Henry in his book "Collins Machetes and Bowies 1845-1965", pages 127-128, documents the order and use of these non Marine stamped beauties in the island hopping campigns. Henry stated that he had only seen three of this model during his collecting career (copy of book and some print attached, but book not included in this sale). This example has the correct #9 phenolic plastic handle. Blade is 20" and over all length is 25", with blood groove, has been sharpened. I have not cleaned up other than whiping off, so a professional can make it look lots nicer. In my opinion the actual is lots better than the photos. I understand that this is a rare machete, but I am not a collector and have limited knowlede. The person I got the machete from said his father brought back from WWII and took off a dead Japanese in the Pacific campaign (I guess the Japanese soldier took if from an American soldier), which was hard fought as they chased each other from island to island. If you have info, please share. I also have some Marine books listed as well as other Collins machetes and U.S.Army items listed and will combine shipping if possible. Thanks
