CORRECTION - The barrel is actually 22" as it is supposed to be...I measured the breach as well as the barrel originally. Serial #415S1* Rifle functions perfectly. Has a trapdoor buttplate.

[Information added 3/11/2013 8:22:24 PM]
The serial does have an "S" in it; and appears to be rare.

[Information added 3/11/2013 8:23:58 PM]
There is also an "Eagle" and "US Springfield" on the lockplate/hammer assembly.

More pictures by request; just send me an email...

There is no repair on the forearm stock on the right side in front of the barrel mounting ring; it is a metal push release which releases the ring which is removed to remove the barrel. The forearm ring has a "U" on it and the rear site has a "C" on it. There is one very small scrape with an indent into the wood approx 1/16" deep about 1/2" long and a very very small 1/8" circular indent in front of that on the left forearm stock in front of the barrel ring....normal wear and tear....the wood is VG other than these two scrapes and the splintered wood under the lockplate all of which are visable in the pictures. Good luck bidders!!

A Curio and Relic(C&R)license or FFL is required

[Information added 3/13/2013 10:14:40 PM]
A Curio and Relic(C&R)license or FFL is required?? This is an antique built prior to 1898. Nothing is required, even in NY. I had many guns ship by PO priority mail. That Info whoever gave it is incorrect. The gun will ship the least restrictive way! I am new at this and not sure what is required at the moment! I don't have the time to look it up...

[Information added 3/14/2013 4:53:15 AM]
Q: What constitutes "antique" under U.S. law and is an FFL required? A: Although your State and local laws may vary, any firearm with a receiver actually made before Jan. 1, 1899 is legally "antique." and not considered a "firearm" under Federal law. This refers to the actual date of manufacture of the receiver/frame, not just model year or patent date marked. (For example, only low serial number Winchester Model 1894 lever actions are actually antique.) No FFL is required to buy or sell antiques across state lines-- they are in the same legal category as a muzzle-loading replica. I regularly ship them right to people's doorstep via UPS, with no "paper trail." Think of it as the last bastion of gun ownership privacy.

[Information added 3/15/2013 10:48:37 PM]
As for the stock being an original carbine stock and not a cut down from a rifle stock--would you take a good look at the bottom of the forearm and make sure there is no repair or wood filler in the bottom middle of the exterior of the forearm where once a cleaning rod used to run. Area again is front of barrel band to end of forearm tip on bottom of forearm--not either side of forearm but very bottom..a original stock is critical to a nice carbine? Answer - I cannot really tell and I am no expert so I don't want to de-value the rifle, but I added additonal pictures of these areas.
