There is No Product Code on The "K" Series Because Smith Started Running Three (3) Letter Serial Prefixes Right About The Time of This Last Revolver Mentioned Above and When This Happened, "THEN ALL OF THE 3 LETTER SERIAL PREFIXED REVOLVERS HAD PRODUCT CODES" ! Thru All of The Current Data Smith has Accumulated During The 37 Years of "K" Series, The Most Number of Revolvers With That "K" Included Was in 1975 ! More "K" Series Were Made and Distributed During the Year of 1975 ("Now You Know That") ! Actually, The Model 19 is The Predecessor To The Model 66 (Fully Stainless Steel Revolver) ! The Model 19 Appears To Look Similar To The Model 15, But The Barrel is "Thicker" For The 357 Magnum Loads ! Some Gun "Folks" Say That The Model 19 Also Looks Similar To The Model 18 (The K-22 Combat Masterpiece) -- 22 Long Rifle ! I Honestyly Cannot Tell If It Was Fired Upon Arrival At My Late Family Members Home ! Henceforth, With That Information -- It Would Be Very Practical and Honest To Say That This Revolver Has Probally "Never" Been Shot More Than 6 Rounds ! Did You Know -- That Back in 1978, That Smith and Wesson Sometimes Did Fire Their "New" Revolvers More Than 5 Rounds at the Factory For "TESTING PURPOSES" ? Also, As Well -- I've Seen Revolvers Come From The Smith and Wesson Factory in The 1970's That "DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TEST FIRED SHOTS" -- Yep, Sure Have Seen Them and I Recently Sold One ! Anything and Everything Use To Happen In "THOSE GOOD OLD MANUFACTURING YESTER YEARS" ! Things Were Not Set Up Like Todays' ("FIRST CASE ENCLOSED IN THE ENVELOPE") ! That is Just The Way it Was = Gents ! Back To The Technical Information ! Naturally, She has a Pinned Barrel and That Well Sought After Collectible Cylinder With "Recessed Charged Holes" ! The Cylinder on This Revolver is "TIGHTER THAN A TICK ON A HOUND DOG" ! No Cylinder Circles That "WOULD AMOUNT TO A HILL OF BEANS" ! The Case Coloring on These "Pure Carbon Steel" Trigger and Hammer is "Stunningly Georgeous" As You Can See on The Outdoor Photo Snapshots ! Black Adjustable Rear Sight and A Serrated Front Sight Made To The Barrel (I Like That Too) == And == These "GRIPS" -- Well, Let's Just Say This == "THEY ARE PRETTIER THAN A PROM QUEEN == AND == BETTER YET, THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A FRECKLE ON THEM" ! There have Got To Be Over 50 to 70 "Variations" and Commemoratives During These Runs as Stated In The Smith Manual ! This Was The "Very Last" Model (The 19-4) That Possessed The Pinned Barrel ! Smith Deleted The "Pinned Barrel" on The Model (19-5) During the Year of 1982 ! Smith had All of The Various Barrel Lengths == 2.5", 3", 4", and the 6" ! The 4" Model 19 Still "HELD HER PLACE" With Honor and High Standards Among The 2.5" and The 3" ! One Variation Which is Rare is Called The "Lunch Box" Gun (Model 19) and it's Barel Length Was 8 3/8" ! It is However, A Very-Very Rare Run ! The "K" Series Ran For Such A Long Time ("37 Years") That The Smith "Serial Numbering Staff" had to Figure Out A Way To Do The "K" Series Without Confusing The "Various Years" of Distribution ! Henceforth, The First "K" Series Always Had The "K" in the "FRONT LOCATION" Before The Serial Number ! Naturally, The First "K" Series Had Only The "K" and 3 Other Numbers Following it -- (This Was in 1946) ! Then, The Serial Numbering Staff At The Smith Factory Jumped Quickly in The Year (1947 - December) To The "K" Series having 5 Other Numbers Following It ! In (December - 1950), The Serial Numbering Staff at S&W Jumped Right on In With 6 Numbers Following The "K" ! They Ran These Revolver All The Way "Just Like This Above Mentioned Format" (K in Front and 6 Numbers Following The K) From December 1950 Until There "VERY" Last One (January - 1970) ! The Last One Ever Ran and Distributed With The "K" in Front of The 6 Digit Serial Number was Naturally ("K999999") ! Then All "Heck" Broke Lose With Everything ! The "K" Serial Prefix Was Still Prevalent But it Now "Resided" in The 2nd Position of the Serial Number Like in (February - 1970) Which Was "1K19500" ! See Now Very Clearly -- (STILL 6 NUMBERS WITH THE K BUT THE K IS IN THE 2ND POSITION OF THE SERIAL NUMBER) ! This Remained The Same Until the Year (1975) ! This Was When The Serial Numbering Staff At S&W Said We Must Do Something Else With This "DOG GONE K SERIES" and They Did ! "THEY ADDED 7 Numbers With The "K" ! Yep, "Dig This Serial Number -------- "9K100000" ! Since Smith Made and Distributed The Most "K" Series in The Year of 1975, The Serial Numbering Staff Said -- "HEY, WE'VE GOT TO GET ON THE BAND WAGON AND GET THIS UNDER CONTROL" -- So, They Said "LET'S GO BACK TO THE 6 NUMBERS AND THE K" ! Henceforth, They Did ! In 1976 -- "DIG THIS SERIAL NUMBER" ("9K99999") ! Then They Wanted To Get The "K" Series More Under Control So They Move The "K" to The 3rd Position Like This First Serial Number in 1977 -- "Dig This" -- Serial Number "10K0001" ! Eventually The Letter K Moved To The 4th Position and "SO ENDED HISTORY" Of The "K" Series ! Just Remember This Fact About a "K" Series and You'll Always Know Which Revolver is The Oldest and The Newest ! "THE OLDER MODELS ARE WITH THE K AT THE FIRST" and "THE LATER YEAR MODELS ARE WITH THE K IN THE 4TH POSITION" ! So Much For The "K" Series ! This Revolver is a 19-4 (1977 - 1978) Smith 357 Magnum !
