Description for Item # 332449919
| |
Elaborately decorated, early 19th century Afghan rifled musket. Caliber: 14 mm. This pattern is less common than Jezail. With a straight buttstock, the musket was mot likely influenced by Persian guns. This gun has a nice octagonal barrel with mechanical "Damascus" pattern. The stock is elaborately decorated with mother of pearl inserts. English style flintlock, most likely supplied by English traders, or manufactured locally in English style (the more complex parts of Afghan guns were often taken from damaged foreign muskets, most notably the British Brown Bess). Lockplate displays some Arabic markings, that could be maker's, or arsenal's stamps. The fading word, "London" is partially visible on the lockplate. Some Arabic markings are painted on the horn buttplate. Four brass barrel bands. The musket was manufactured without rear sights. Simple front sight. Iron trigger guard. Two sling swivels. Complete with original steel ramrod. Overall length: 50.5 inch. Barrel length: 36.75 inch. CONDITION: Overall, the musket is in fine condition. The stock is nice, without any cracks. Mechanical "Damascus" pattern is still visible on the barrel. Some scattered patina is present on the barrel, lock and on the lockplate. Some mother of pearl decorative inserts on the stock are missing. English style flintlock is in working order. The musket had originally one extra sling swivel, just in front of lockplate, as indicated by a small hole. A nice example of elaborately decorated Afghan rifled musket! Shipping is $30 in the continental U.S., actual shipping cost overseas. Personal checks will be held for 12 days or until cleared by the bank.
