Here is a superb quality Naval gun which is a museum quality fully operational scale replica of the 24 pounder bow chasers used on board US Naval Vessels of the 1800's.
The naval brass (Tobin Bronze) gun tube is machined from solid rolled bar stock for maximum strength and integrity. The bore diameter is 25 MM which is approx. one fifth scale of the originals. The original guns were 18 pounders which were re-bored to 24 pounders for the more efficient use on board the newer vessels. Back in the day of the 'ships of the line', firing at ranges of more than 400 yards was not the normal practice and furthermore the slower velocity heavier shot was more damaging to the opposing vessels.
The carriage is custom finished American walnut with all custom Re-produced brass/bronze hardware. This carriage was made by Robert E. Timberlake who is the well known artist Bob Timberlake's first cousin. Robert is a master cabinet maker, machinist, farrier and forge artisan.
Included with this fine piece is the all marine grade tropical hardwood 'sepele' box with the ramrod/ladle combination. The handles and wheel chock appointments are Brazilian 'Ipe' hardwood which was salvaged from the well known Coney Island Boardwalk.
The un-questioned overall quality of the piece is paramount so there is no question of this item's continued and increasing value.
10ga. and 8Ga. breech loader signal/salute guns of this same type are also available.
We are currently sold out of the boxes so please allow up to two weeks to deliver. Thank you.
