SUPER RARE TEXAS RANGER ISSUE COLT AR-15 W/PROVENANCE – A MUSEUM-GRADE RARE COLLECTIBLE! Stock # MMR241110SP. Serial # SP51897. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the very Advanced Collector or Museum to acquire a truly unique Texas Ranger Collectible. From time to time, Texas Ranger handguns, that were private purchase weapons used by Texas Rangers come up for sale, and these guns are quite collectible, however this Colt AR-15 surpasses any Ranger handgun in rarity, and it is the only known specimen of an actual Texas Ranger ISSUE Firearm for sale anywhere! The rifle comes with provenance that we will discuss in a moment, but here is the story on the gun – this rifle, a Colt AR-15, Serial # SP51897, DPS Inventory # 25142, was originally issued to Texas Ranger Sergeant Johnny Waldrip ffrom 1983 to 1996. Prior to this, the rifle was used by Texas Ranger Captain James A. Wright, commander of Rangers Company “B” in Garland, TX. The rifle was retired from service when Ranger Waldrip retired in 1996. The provenance consists of two documents. The first document is a letter on the letterhead of Company “B” of the Texas Rangers in Garland, Texas, signed by Johnny L. Waldrop, the letter recounts the aforementioned history of the weapon. The second document is the actual Property Inventory Card from the Texas DPS, (Texas Rangers are under the control of the Texas DPS). The property card identifies the weapon by serial number and also the DPS Inventory Number, 25142, and it bears the signatures of both Rangers that it was issued to, Captain Wright, and Sergeant Waldrip. The rifle itself is just a very early “Slabside” (no forward assist) Colt AR-15, semi-auto (although Rangers were known to carry auto sears with them!) full-size rifle in .223 caliber. The rifle has all the standard Colt markings on the receiver, and it also has the Inventory # 25142, stamped in silver color on the left side of the receiver. The rifle has a bayonet lug, and a green canvas GI-style sling. The rifle is in very good (95%) overall condition, including the plastic stocks, the parkerized finish, and the shiny bore. To our knowledge, there has NEVER been a Texas Rangers Issue AR-15 Rifle for sale anywhere, and the only one you may ever see besides this one will be in the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco, Texas. This rifle is priced according to it’s rarity, however we believe that if the gun went to a major auction it would fetch twice what we ask for it (+ buyer’ premiums!).
