Description for Item # 333113087

This is an original Japanese Type 30 Carbine. It shoots the 6.5x50mm Semi-Rimmed cartridge. About 45,000 Type 30 carbines were produced between 1897 and 1903 and issued to cavalry and mounted troops during the Russo-Japanese war. After the war they were sold to Russia, Britain and several other european countries. This Type was replaced before WWII by the Japanese Type 38. This is a really hard to find model so few being made so long ago. The hook safety feature is the most identifiable. This rifle is in excellent condition. There is amazingly little wear and only slight blue finish failure on the magazine cover and trigger guide which is a brown patina. The bluing on the receiver, barrel, bolt handle and hook safety are in surprisingly good condition. I have not seen more than a couple of these carbines mostly on the internet and this one is in far better condition. The bore has clear lands and grooves and the rifle is extremely solid. The machining is precise unlike wartime production usually is. The stock is cherry wood and with the Japanese trademark 2 piece stock due to shortage of wood. There is some separating of the 2 piece butt shown in the pictures and a gouge just in front of the rear sight otherwise the stock is in good condition. I would call the sights optimistic showing ranges out to 1500 meters. The markings on the rifle are shown in the pictures and show the chrysanthemum with the Tokyo arsenal marking in the middle. A serial number is stamped on the receiver with a shorter variant of the number on the bolt and bayonet lug . There are several assembly numbers and inspection marks stamped on different parts of the carbine. Contact seller regarding any questions about the rifle, auction, payment methods or shipping.
