Description for Item # 389630100

Here is a true survivor and classic rifle. A Remington Revolving Rifle in .44 percussion. This antique gun is in excellent mechanical condition. It locks up solid when cocked, rotates smoothly, and ends with a clean, crisp trigger. No powder corrosion can be found anywhere on this rifle. Take particular note of where the cylinder meets the barrel. This is the first place that corrosion will appear and there is none. The mechanics work perfectly. The bore is in excellent condition with deep grooves and as noted before no powder corrosion. These guns were made roughly from 1866 to 1879. Around 800 produced. I have had a few experts look at this rifle. Some things noted are: There is no serial number. This is the second one recorded that has no serial number. (refer to” Study of Revolving Rifle” link) This rifle has a 28” long by ¾” across the flats full octagon barrel. Which is correct. The loading lever is slightly different than sibling rifles. It has some metal not present in the webbing when compared to sibling rifles. The best conclusion is it was reworked perhaps after leaving the factory but the loading rod is believed to be original to the gun. The wood has been refinished and has an obvious old world style, wooden plug repair at the wrist as can be seen in the pics. The wood to metal fit is solid with no loose fits. The metal appears to be untouched. The blue finish is mostly gone and the gun is a handsome patina. Look at the pics for best representation. I suggest referencing the article from the Remington Society of America on these rifles. It will give you good information and pics to compare this gun to its sibling rifles. It gives barrel specs and other info to know this is a correct rifle. Here is the link. http://www.remingtonsociety.com/rsa/journals/RevolvingRifles I purchased this rifle from the estate sale of a wealthy person a number of years ago. This person had a substantial collection of antique weapons. None of the inheriting family shared the collector’s passion for antique weaponry and could tell me nothing about the background of this rifle. Finding another original in better condition is not impossible but when will it happen and at what price? This iconic Remington has been the model chosen for reproduction by a number of modern makers and is well recognized by antique collectors as special. When you see the hard to find items, it is time to purchase. If a person were to buy this antique near the minimum price it will be a very good day for that person. . The buyer will have two days for inspection. If the gun is returned, the cost of returning and insurance will be paid by the buyer. I will ship the gun in a padded hard case. Cost of shipping will be $100. This will include the hard case, shipping plus insurance. One last note: I am in the Memphis Tennessee area until spring. The antique is with me and can be seen with appointment. It will be necessary to send the monies to me at a Residence Inn in Southaven MS. It can all be verified before you send monies so you know I am real. If you choose to send payment to my Oklahoma address it will be slow reaching me as USPS is slow to forward my mail.
