Description for Item # 390914665

Up for no reserve bid starting at $.01 is this interesting scarce .22 rim fire single shot blank derringer. Manufactured by Dexter Smith (son of Horace Smith of S&W) and distributed by Buckland Brothers wholesale jewelers of Springfield MA circa 1870s for the 1876 centennial, also called the "fourth of July Pistol". It has a 2 inch barrel and is 5 inches overall length with an extremely simple mechanism, hammer and trigger are one piece. Has a brass frame with 1776 marked on the top of the barrel and PAT.APR,22,73 on the left side. The trigger/hammer functions as it should. The walnut grips are solid with no chips or cracks. It appears that the breech has been plugged, probably for safety reasons. Although intended as a .22 rf blank noise-maker pistol, it would accept a .22 short cartridge and would be quite dangerous if fired. Due to this pistol's age and that it is a consignment item from an estate, it is being sold "as is/where is/no return". No license required to purchase this antique and can be shipped directly to your door. $12.00 s/h/ins to anywhere in USA. I accept certified bank checks and money orders only.
