Auto Ordnance makes a quartet of thin and affordable M1911 single-stack handguns. They look great and feel great. All ship new with a single magazine. All use matte black 4140 steel frames and barrel-vaulted slides. All have a simple low-profile blade front sight, a drift-adjustable rear sight and a thumb safety on pistol’s left rear beneath the slide. Their slides feature vertical grip serrations at back and a clean front. The trigger is a solid blade

Auto Ordnance builds three of the four around a 5” length barrel. These are the .45 ACP 1911BKOW, .45 ACP 1911BKO and the 9 mm 1911BKO9. The first two are 8.6” long overall. They weigh 2.3 pounds each and come with a 7-round magazine. However, the 9 mm 1911BKO9 is only 7.5” long and weighs 2.4 pounds. It ships standard with a 9-round magazine.

The fourth member of the quartet is the slightly smaller 1911BKOC Commander-sized pistol. Chambered for .45 ACP, it has a 4.25” length barrel and a 7.9” overall length. The weight is also lower and tips the scales at 2.2 pounds. It also uses the same blade front sight and drift-adjustable rear sight as its three larger siblings and the same 4140 steel construction for the frame and slide. Though the barrel is shorter, the frame has the same height, and it also uses the 7-round magazine.

The 1911BKOW uses nicely checkered genuine wood grips. These have the classic “double-diamond” surrounds around the grip screws and the classic “U.S.” stencil mark at center of each grip.

The three other 1911s (1911BKO, 1911BKOC and 1911BKO9) use brown plastic checkered grips with simple discs around the flat-head fasteners. The grips also feature a beavertail safety and a lanyard loop that protrudes from the bottom.
