The Barrett Firearms Model 107A1 .50 BMG shoulder-fired recoil-operated semi-automatic integrates a fluted match grade barrel, muzzle break, folding bipod, etc. into an extraordinarily stable platform. This long-range precision shooting rifle takes the company’s Model 82A1 design and makes it even lighter, more accurate and more reliable.

Thanks to 7000-series aluminum alloy and titanium parts, weight drops 4.1 pounds! Tweaks to manufacturing and design make the assembly and parts more precise, enhancing accuracy. This cohesive holistic approach pays dividends, and Barrett proudly proclaims this gun the apex of its 30+ years of product development. History buffs will also appreciate the M107A1 moniker, since that was also used for the Vietnam-War era’s massive self-propelled 175mm gun that could shoot 25 miles!

The Model 107A1 eschews orthodoxy for rigidly straight architecture, linearity, pure diagonals and block shapes for an extruded post-modern look. The aluminum upper receiver actually starts out as one long 7000-series aluminum alloy tracked part that already has the final part’s cross section. It is then milled to make Picatinny slots in the crest.

This gun’s looks might seem slightly deceptive. Barrett terms what looks like the upper receiver as just the “receiver” and the bottom part the “trigger housing assembly.” The Model 107A1 has three color schemes: Manganese Phosphate, Tungsten Grey and Flat Dark Earth. The selected color covers the one-piece extrusion receiver and stock while everything else is black. The gun also has plenty of anti-corrosive coatings, a chrome-lined chamber and bore, etc.

You can get this gun only in .50 BMG but then you have your choice of either a 29” or 20” barrel. Either way, it’s a hand-lapped precision-made match-barrel fronted by a long 4-port muzzle brake. The .50 BMG with the 29” barrel is 57” overall and weigh 28.7 pounds apiece. The 20” barrel gun is 48” overall and weighs 27.4 pounds. Both have a 1:15” twist ratio. The barrels accept the Barrett QDL suppressor.

On top is an incredibly long 23.0” 27 MOA accessory rail for a scope or other accessories. No scope is included, but you do get standard flip-up iron sights and a carrying handle that also attaches to the rail. Back on the receiver sits a simple two-position safety (safe and fire).

In front is a quick detach adjustable bipod. Both legs are long straight beams with a two rows of large circular lightening ports on each. The bipod makes liberal use of titanium and polymer.

The bolt has an electroless nickel plating for wear and corrosion resistance.

You also get an A2-style pistol grip with diamond checkering on both flanks. The guns come standard with a 10-round magazine that feeds rounds easily into the gun. The rear handgrip is backed by a nicely padded black buttpad and is topped by a thermal cheek guard. The butt has a nice, comfortable contour, and you can also have a titanium monopod at its bottom for additional stability.
