The Barrett REC10 .308 Winchester 20+1 semi-automatic AR-15 type carbine is a nice piece of equipment. It uses weight-saving and less expensive direct impingement engineering.

The REC10 carbine is built around a high-precision 16” stainless steel barrel grooved at a 1:10” twist ratio. Overall length is 34.5”. It weighs 8.3 pounds and features a 20-round waffle-pattern magazine. The direct impingement shaves a pound off the 7.2 pounds of Barrett’s own gas-piston counterpart. On the other hand (and for perspective), compared to Barrett’s own REC7 DI that’s chambered around lighter, more affordable and less hard-hitting 5.56x45 NATO rounds, the REC10 is about 1” longer, two pounds heavier and more expensive.

The REC10 barrel has high-quality Barrett 3-prong flash hider or muzzle break. Barrett uses precision machined billet aluminum for both the upper and lower receiver. The receiver parts get a thick Type 3 Class 2 anodized hardcoat that’s further finished in Cerakote in either black, Tungsten Grey or Flat Dark Earth (FDE).

The REC10 enshrouds end to end quality and durability. To wit, the Barrett gas block is patented, chrome-lined for durability and black nitride coated for cooler operations. The action has an integrated strike face. The anti-tilt bolt carrier is hewn from solid block of 8620 steel and has a very tough wear resistant TB-41 DLC coating. Nearby you get an ambidextrous 7075-aluminum and MILSPEC anodized Radian Raptor charging handle that’s Made in USA.

The free-float handguard has a full-length MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail with numbered slots and M-LOK slots at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions. The handguard has lightening ports on all its diagonal surfaces. The gun comes with Magpul Pro backup flip up iron sights that are spring loaded and easily knob adjustable for windage (rear sight) and elevation (front sight).

Moving down is a smooth ALG Defense QMS Trigger loaded with 8620 aluminum alloy and high carbon steel parts and typically has about 6.5 pounds of pull pressure. In case you were wondering, QMS stands for Quality Mil-Spec. The trigger guard is slightly oversized to use with gloves. Behind it is a black Magpul MOE textured pistol grip.

In back is a Magpul MOE SL stock. MOE SL is short for Magpul Original Equipment Mil-Spec Model Slim Line. It works with AR15/M4 carbines that use Mil-Spec receiver extension tubes. This all-black stock is Made in USA. It is ambidextrous, featuring an angled rubber buttpad, dual-side anti-snag release flap latches and a rolled toe. It weighs 9.6 ounces and has a 3.3” length of pull adjustment. This translates to a full extension length of pull of about 14.1” and 10.8” minimum.
