Bayonets for Sale – Buy Bayonets Online
So many of us have a curiosity for World Wars I and II relics. During that time, the rifles that were made had an attached bayonet used in combat. The bayonet is a type of spear attached to the barrel of the gun and was used to stab in battle. Some bayonets were not meant to be attached to the end of a gun, but instead were used as a sword. Soldiers used the detached bayonets as a survival tool when on the field. Before you check out our bayonet listings for your rifle or muzzleloader collection, read a little bit about their history and usage first.
History of the Bayonet
Bayonets were originally used for hunting purposes. Guns were far too difficult to load quickly, so while hunting, the bayonet acted as a separate form of protection in case the gun couldn’t be loaded in time. The first form of the bayonet was developed in the 16th century. It wasn’t until the 19th century that it started being used the way it is today—as a sword at the end of a rifle. Even today, the bayonet is used on rifles and in war, but not as aggressively as centuries before us. Bayonets were once used for charging, and now they are used only if there are no other weapons handy.
The bayonet was popular in countries like the United States, China, Belgium, the Soviet Union, Germany, Austria, and France—particularly during the World Wars. Some countries used the bayonet more for hunting purposes while others’ sole purpose of the bayonet was for bayonet charges during the war.
