The semi-automatic Beretta 70S pistol looks like it’s from a pre-polymer bygone era that behooves its robust steel frame construction. The 70S is single-action and chambered in .22 LR, .32 ACP or .380 ACP. This 3.5” barrel single-stack is still very much a popular gun that’s desired for its compact dimensions and several nifty attributes.

For starters, the conceal carry gun has compact dimensions (including 4.8” height and 6.5” length), generous snag-cheating curves and very durable construction. Styling is in the eye of the beholder, but it does have little diagonal grip serrations on the back of the slide, a circular loop hammer and a nice beavertail that add to its appeal. An unusual feature is the oversize magazine release button located on the grip’s bottom left corner. The gun also has a solid blade curved trigger.

The 70S was developed for the export market and stands out from the original Beretta 70 by virtue of its left-side red dot thumb safety (hence the “S”) on the left side of the frame. American market models also had left thumb rests on their hatched textured grips.

The three calibers are largely the same, but differ in a few details. The .22 LR is an 8+1 capacity with a fixed front sight that’s paired with an adjustable rear one. Weight comes in at 22.4 ounces. The .32 ACP also is 8+1 but has fixed front and rear sights. Weight is 24.2 ounces or just over 1.5 pounds. The .380 ACP also wears fixed sights in front and back, but is a 7+1 gun that weighs 23.8 ounces.
