The Beretta 92 FS Brigadier 9mm caliber double-action/single-action (DA/SA) semi-automatic pistol is hammer-fired, metal-framed, substantive, handsome, imposing and durable. It’s a variant of the famous 92FS. Its short-recoil delayed locking-block system delivers impressively fast cycle times.
The US military loves the Beretta 92 series and has standardized the gun as the M9 and later M9A1 and M9A3 sidearms. In fact, it replaced the vaunted M1911 as the military’s standard side arm. The reasons include excellent match-grade accuracy, ridiculously tight tolerances, complete interchangeability of parts for easier and faster maintenance and decreased logical demands and more.
The Brigadier’s cold-hammer forged barrel is 4.9”, overall height is 5.4” and width is 1.5”. Unloaded weight is 33.3 ounces or just over two pounds. The all black 9mm gun is 8.5” long, which translates to an expansive accuracy-inducing 6.1” sight radius between the front and rear sights. The front sight is a white dot dovetailed unit that can be adjusted for windage while at back you get a twin white dot dovetailed sight.
The 92 FS Brigadier has the signature striking open slide you’ve seen on other Beretta 90-series guns. The open slide cuts both weight and backward-momentum when the gun is fired. It has a nice tight collection of forward leaning slide serrations at back. Also at back, are an external hammer and the ambidextrous thumb safety.
The gun’s metal exterior bears a corrosion resistant Bruniton finish or Beretta’s Inox (stainless steel) finish. Either choice looks great.
The pistol’s machined recoil buffer makes for improved durability. The reversible magazine release can be configured for either right-hand or left-hand use. There is also an ambidextrous safety-decocker. The gun has excellent ergonomics with a round trigger guard and a mild palmswell at back. It also wears a recoil-absorbing Hogue soft overmolded rubber wraparound grip with three nicely done finger grooves and a non-slip cobblestone stippling texture.
