The “BMR” in Bergara BMR stands for Bergara Micro Rimfire. And this .22 LR, .17 HMR and .22 WMR rifle does plenty that its bigger siblings do. The BMR is a 5+1 or 10+1 capacity bolt-action rimfire that’s accurate, feature rich and high-quality developed around. The .17 HMR and .22 WMR joined the lineup in 2021. The BMR provides all the benefits of a high-quality long-range rifle in more affordable “training” calibers that’s also great for NRL22 and PRS .22 match competitions.

The BMR has a #4 taper 4140 steel matted blued finish or a carbon fiber barrel. In each case, the barrel is backed by a match chamber. The steel barrel guns have a stock that’s tactical gray with black specks. In contrast, the carbon fiber barrel guns have a stock that has spackled gray on matte black finish.

Moving back, the smooth action has two-lugs, a sliding plate extractor and a grooved conical bolt handle.

Let’s cover some steel barrel version metrics. The .22 LR has an 18” barrel with a 1:16” twist ratio. It’s 36” overall and weighs 5.5 pounds. The .22 WMR has a 1:16” twist, and the .17 HMR has a 1:9” twist. Both have 20” barrels. Length with spacers is 38” overall, and weight is 5.8 pounds.

The carbon fiber metrics are the same as the steel barrel counterparts except the barrels have a #6 taper. Moreover, the .22 LR weighs 5 pounds and the other two weigh 5.4 pounds. All six versions end with a 1/2-28” TPI thread and come with a thread protector.

The BMR features a short-action mini-chassis bedded into a serpentine heavy tactical molded stock. The stock has nicely done texturing on both front and at the grip. It features integrated OD flush cup sling mounts and swivel mounts so you can mount both a sling and a bipod. The stock is also factory drilled and tapped for Remington 700 rings and bases.

Continuing the Remington 700 compatibility, it’s also compatible with Remington 700 triggers and stocks.

You can get the BMR with both a 5-round and a 10-round Bergara slim line detachable box magazine. The BMR’s stock is backed by a thick black recoil pad and is adjustable both for cheek rest and length-of-pull. The totality is impressive!

Bergara precision barrels use advanced manufacturing techniques including face turning/barrel straightening, deep hole drilling, honing, rifling and stress relieving. Face turning smooths the bar stock and straightens it.

Let’s explore the process in a bit more detail. Deep hole drilling creates the bore in the stock from one end to the other. Honing uses diamond-tipped bits to create near mirror-polished bore interiors in a way that’s much smoother than simply reaming it. Rifling uses a carbide rifling button that creates grooves at the determined ideal twist ratio. The final step is stress relieving which uses high temperature heating to align steel molecules! The result is an extremely high-quality barrel with sub .0002” grooves that is more affordable barrels often costing much more.
