Bergara’s Premier Mountain is a high-tech long-range precision hunting rifle whose standout features is its lightweight stock fed through a hinged floor plate. And that makes perfect sense: weight is the enemy of mountain troops or anyone else taking rifles into mountains. Shaving each and every unnecessary ounce is of paramount importance. And that is what Bergara has done with the Premier Mountain bolt-action.

Bergara has cut weight in multiple places. This includes using a No. 3 barrel taper, using shorter 22” to 24” length barrels, and perhaps best of all, using an AG Composite 100% Carbon Fiber stock. Net? The Mountain series guns weigh just 6.2 to 6.4 pounds. And that’s stunningly light.

The AG Composite 100% Carbon Fiber stock uses a hinged floor plate. The carbon fiber gives the stock a breathtaking telltale pattern, but that is sponge overpainted with camouflage.

Caliber choices include 6.5 Creedmore (1:8” twist ratio), 6.5 PRC (1:8”), .300 Winchester Magnum (1:10”) and .300 PRC (1:9”)., .308 Winchester (1:10”), and .28 NOSLER (1:9.5”).

Both the .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor have a 22” length barrel, a 41.5” overall length and weigh 6.2 lbs. Both have a 4-round capacity. The other four have 24” barrels. The 6.5 PRC is 43.5” long overall and weighs 6.3 pounds. The .300 Winchester Magnum, and .28 Nosler all stretch to 44” and weigh 6.4 pounds. The .300 PRC is also 44” but weighs 6.5 pounds. The 6.5 PRC, .28 Nosler and .300 PRC carry three rounds while the .300 Winchester Magnum holds two rounds.

Not surprisingly since they are Bergara products, these guns have a sub-MOA guarantee using factory match-grade ammo.

The Mountain slots into Bergara’s Premier Series and is the lightest in the entire Premiers. The lineup fits in between Bergara’s already impressive stock rifles and its supreme Custom Series. The Premiers receive high-end premium components such as the lever manual safety that are often in the Custom Series but enjoy the benefits of mass production, lower cost, etc. thanks to greater efficiencies of scale.

Each caliber barrel is stainless-steel barrel with a Tactical Grey Cerakote for weather protection. It also has a #3 taper barrel. Moreover, each has a 5/8-24” TPI thread and thread protector at the muzzle.

The two-lug one-piece 416 stainless-steel Bergara Premier action these guns use makes for speedy, secure lockups. It also has a sliding plate extractor and a separate floating bolt head. The oversize conical bolt knob provides an extra bit of grasp compared to spherical ones and is Cerakoted for durability. Nonetheless it’s the bolt body’s spiral fluting that is most eye-catching. Additionally, the bolt stop and quarter-turn to remove bolt shroud are Nitrided for self-lubrication and durability. It also has a spring-loaded sliding plate extractor. The bolt gas shield remains fixed in place instead of rotating with the bolt. This keeps gases from flaring toward the shooter’s face when there’s an ammo failure.

The gun features an externally adjustable TriggerTech Frictionless Release Technology trigger. There is a nice safety at back. What’s clever is it is integrated with the manual safety lever located by the bolt rear on the receiver’s right side. Pull back, and it’s in “safe” position. Push forward to ready in the “fire” position. But you can still maneuver the bolt in either position or easily unload the gun in safe position.
