Bianchi Holsters History & Background

Founded in 1958 by John Bianchi, a Southern California police officer, Bianchi Holsters is driven by innovative designs and unconventional marketing strategies to bring comfort and convenience to firearm enthusiasts.

John Bianchi began creating holsters to fill the need of effective on-duty holsters. In 1960, Bianchi developed the popular thumb-snap feature found on the original Model 5BH/5BHL and 19/19L Bianchi Holsters. In 1970, the Model 27 “Break Front" holster became one Bianchi Holsters first patents; it allowed a rapid draw with fluid motion, yet secured the pistol from being removed by an assailant.

In the early 1980s Bianchi Holsters revealed its Ranger sporting line of ballistic-weave nylon holsters. It took almost four years of privately funded research to develop the new synthetic universal military system and was adopted by the U.S. Armed Forces in 1984. To meet the needs on the law enforcement front of weapon retention in the on-duty market, the 1990s brought further innovations for Bianchi Holsters. They developed the Pinch Retention Device (PRD), an internal-retention device designed to enhance handgun retention in both duty and off-duty holsters. And in 1997, Bianchi Holsters innovated the Slide-Lok Duty Holster, allowing the user to select their desired amount of weapon retention.

In 2001, Bianchi Holsters introduced the AccuMold Elite series. The uniformed-leather appearance was preferred by law enforcement because it was 50% of the weight of previous models.
