The Black Rain Ordnance .308 AR10 Rifle – FDE Battleworn is a high-end direct impingement semi-automatic rifle built around a 16” barrel, 15” handguard and MAGPUL MOE stock.

The FDE Battleworn color covers the handguard and the upper and lower receivers in an almost distressed look. It cleverly conveys a sense that it was a black gun that was painted all white, and the white has worn off through heavy battle use. Of course, that’s the point, and it looks great.

For this AR-10, Black Rain uses a tough FALLOUT10 billet 7075 T6 Aluminum Upper Receiver coupled to a FALLOUT10 billet 7075 T6 Aluminum Lower Receiver. It’s a good looking, durable set that’s crested by a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail.

This AR-10 uses Nickel Boron Coated BCG (bolt carrier group). The nickel boron coating is very sophisticated, which is great since the part itself is such a heavy duty / heavy use component. The coating minimizes friction and corrosion while increasing wear-resistance.

The gun’s overall length is 34”. The 16” barrel is 4150 Chromoly that’s fronted by an A2 birdcage-style flash hider.

This gun has a 15” length handguard. This Made in USA handguard has prominent BLACK RAIN lettering along the flanks and latticework on the diagonal surfaces. This handguard is 1.75? wide inside, has 6 QD accessory points, is recessed for optic and has integrated machined MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails along the top accompanied by short 4-slot Picatinny rails on both front flanks in front. Keeping weight down is a clever design with some of the top Picatinny rail slots in front, some in back and no slots in the middle. The rear slots integrate nicely with the Picatinny rail atop the upper receiver. The totality provides ample room for accessories.

The operation is via a low-profile non-adjustable gas block.

In back is a matte black MAGPUL MOE Carbine Stock that’s 6.9” long and is adjustable across a 3.3” length-of-pull range. The MIL-SPEC stock uses a simple latch lever actuated adjustment. MAGPUL calls this shape a streamlined A-frame, but triangular or “delta” would be more apropos. The skeletonized shape shields the latch against snagging. It’s backed by a .3” thick black rubber buttpad. It’s engineered and Made in USA. Length-of-pull adjusts from 10.5” to 13.8”. The stock weighs 8.0 ounces without the receiver extension and 12.0 ounces with it.

The trigger guard’s gloved ventral surface is finger-friendly convex. The trigger guard fits neatly between the flared magwell in front of it and the GI grip behind. Inside is a standard curved MIL-SPEC GI trigger. It has little play and breaks cleanly. The grip has texturing on the sides and vertical grip serrations in back. The grip includes an integrated beavertail for increased comfort.

The gun’s overall weight is 8 pounds 8 ounces. Eagle-eyed readers might notice that both weight and length are longer than BRO’s comparable 5.56 NATO 16” AR-15 lineups. The main reason is the .308 Winchester engineered FALLOUT10 receiver set is longer both in front and aft of the trigger and thus heavier and longer overall. And of course, the barrel is wider and heavier too.
