The Black Rain Ordnance Patriot is an AR-type direct impingement semi-automatic rifle with flag motifs in either .223 REM/5.56 NATO or .300 AAC Blackout. These guns are made by Black Rain Ordnance (BRO) of Neosho, Missouri, which has made such arms since 2009.

The Ordnance Patriot has four color choices: American Flag, Betsy Ross Flag, Gadsden Flag and Obsidian Flag. These “camouflage” finish options cover the handguard and the upper and lower receivers. Each color scheme is available in either right-hand or left-hand build configurations

The Ordnance Patriot receivers are anodized for durability. The bolt carrier group is coated using a salt nitride bath. In front is a low-profile non-adjustable carbine-length gas block.

The gun’s overall length is 34”, and the gun weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces. The barrel is made of 4150 chrome moly. It’s 16” long and is fronted by an A2 birdcage flash hider. It sits in a 12” long, 1.75” interior diameter M-LOK hybrid handguard that has a matte black anodized finish.

The handguard has six QD attachment points, and integrated/machined Picatinny rails at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock and M-LOK slots at 6 o’clock. The handguard’s two flanks are etched with BLACK RAIN in prominent letters. The handguard has diagonal triangular pattern latticework ribbing on the four long diagonal surfaces.

The trigger guard’s ventral surface is a straight bridge in between the flared magwell in front of it and the MAGPUL MOE grip behind. Inside is a standard curved GI trigger. It has little play and breaks cleanly.

Below the gun is a GI grip featuring aggressive texturing on the sides and horizontal grip serrations at front and back. The grip includes an integrated beavertail for increased comfort and has a hidden storage compartment accessed from its bottom.

In back is a Sopmod triangular polymer buttstock with two small watertight storage compartments for things like batteries or earplugs. The ventral surface is stair step. It’s very rugged, and the squeeze lever allows you to set the stock to any one of six different length of pull positions.
