The Browning A5 Wicked Wing 4+1 12-gauge is part of its short-recoil operated autoloader A5 shotgun series. What makes all five Wicked Wing models stand out is their burnt bronze Cerakote on the receiver and barrel. This is complimented by Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades camo, which has a fall foliage look of, you guessed it, tall grass blades. Moreover, the receiver is also engraved with grass blades. Thanks to the burnt bronze Cerakote, the design is very cohesive and wonderfully integrated.

Wicked Wings have textured grip panels on the forend and stock that you might not see from a distance. But you will feel them, and they feel comfortable and reassuring.

All five variants are 12-gauge. You can get 3” chambered guns in 26”, 28” or 30” length barrels and 3 ½” chamber guns in 28” or 30” barrel lengths. All have a 14 ¼” length of pull, 1 ¾” drop at comb that drops down to a 2” drop at heel. The 26” barrel gun is 47 5/8” overall. The 28” barreled pair are 49 5/8” long while the 30” guns are 51 5/8” long. Weight is 7 pounds 3 ounces for the 26” barrel. The pair of 28s are 7 pounds 5 ounces, and the 30s are 7 pounds 7 ounces.

The A5 range’s signature is its raised rear lightweight aluminum alloy receiver. Its long sight line leads to an ivory mid-bead and a red fiber optic front bead sight sit atop a 1/4" width vent rib.

One great feature is the versatile, all-weather, recoil-operated Kinematic Drive System which harnesses recoil energy for faster cycle times. The system’s four-lug bolt instead of the usual three-lug designs means 40 percent shorter turns to secure locks.

Regardless of model, the barrel has a lengthened Vector Pro forcing cone between the bore and chrome-plated chamber. And these Brownings include a trio of interchangeable Invector-DS Extended Chokes (Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder). The DS stands for Double Seal because these are designed with a gas and grit-sealing brass band at their base that serves as a seal just like the threaded portion does.

These premium Browning choke tube sets are the longest of Browning’s choke set offerings. These thread to the muzzle front instead of in back as do the more affordable short Standard Invector and medium-length Invector-Plus tubes. Longer tubes have a longer taper, and thus the less shot deformation and greater accuracy. A cool detail is that Browning has engraved which chokes their guns are compatible with on the barrels and the receiver’s monoblocks.

Browning claims these guns are the planet’s “most reliable, fastest cycling, best performing and softest shooting recoil-operated” autoloader shotgun and backs the claim with a 100,000 round or five-year guarantee.

A5s have tube magazines and handle various ammunition down to one-ounce loads without any adjustment. An included TurnKey magazine plug blocks the magazine for safety. Cleverly designed outlets vent barrel gases and keep parts cleaner and operating more smoothly than they would otherwise.

The bolt carrier group is nickel Teflon coated for a durable protective coating, and the bolt is hard chrome plated. The oversized trigger guard makes gloved operation easy. And within is a gold-plated trigger. A5s feature a Speed Unload to easily empty any shells at a touch. The straight stock design comes with .25” and .5” stock spacers that can be combined for a total .75” length of pull adjustment. In back is a highly absorbent Inflex 2 recoil pad.
