The Browning BAR MK3 Stalker is a fine all-black gas-operated semi-automatic gun with polymer furniture. It’s a fast and accurate short-action 4+1 / 3+1 series that covers .243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .270 Winchester Short Magnum, .300 Winchester Short Magnum, 7mm Remington Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum.

These guns have very specific contours with the drilled and tapped matte black aluminum alloy receiver, matte black hammer forged sporter barrels and matte black weight-saving polymer forend and stock.

The aforementioned calibers break into 22”, 23” and 24” length barrels. The 22” barrel guns are .243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield. Each gun is 22 1/8” longer than the barrel. Thus the 22” barrel guns are 44 1/8” overall and weigh 6 pounds 10 ounces. For reference, the polymer versions are about half a pound less than the standard Browning Bar MK3 that has walnut furniture.

The 23” barrel guns are the .270 Winchester Short Magnum and .300 Winchester Short Magnum. The 23” barrel guns are 45 1/8” overall and weigh 7 pounds 3 ounces.

Finally, the 24” barrel guns are the 7mm Remington Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum. These two are 46 1/8” overall and weigh 7 pounds 8 ounces.

In each case, the stock is shim adjustable for cast on/off and drop at comb. Length of pull is 14 3/8". Drop at comb is 5/8" while the drop at heel is 1 1/8". The detachable box magazine fits securely through the hinged floorplate. The buttstock, length of pull and overall length are about 5/8” longer than in the standard walnut furniture versions of the same gun.

The chamber is chrome plated for durability and reliable feeds. The forend and stock have overmolded grip panels for checkering. The forend is large and tall with a curved Schnabel front for the forend. The stock has a pronounced raised cheek and a good curve at the pistol grip. The recoil pad is contoured and polymer. The gun has integral steel sling studs in front and back.

Paradoxically, the composite trigger guard is an upside-down trapezoid instead of the usual racetrack oval though the trigger guard’s interior is exactly that. There is an exception to the aforementioned comment about this series being all black. Framed within the trigger guard is a gold-plated Browning alloy trigger.
