The Browning Bar MK3 is just another arrow in Browning’s quill of fine gas-operated semi-automatic guns. This fast and accurate short-action 4+1 / 3+1 series covers .243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .270 Winchester Short Magnum, .300 Winchester Short Magnum, 7mm Remington Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum.

These guns have very specific contours with the drilled and tapped nickel-plated aluminum alloy receiver, hammer forged barrels and nicely oiled rich Grade II Turkish walnut forend and stock.

The aforementioned calibers break into 22”, 23” and 24” barrel groups. The 22” barrel guns are .243 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester and .30-06 Springfield. Each gun is 21 3/8” longer than the barrel. Thus the 22” barrel guns are 43 3/8” overall and weigh 7 pounds 2 ounces.

The 23” barrel guns are the .270 Winchester Short Magnum and .300 Winchester Short Magnum. The 23” barrel guns are 44 3/8” overall and weigh 7 pounds 6 ounces.

Finally, the 24” barrel guns are the 7mm Remington Magnum and .300 Winchester Magnum. These two are 45 3/8” overall and weigh 7 pounds 11 ounces.

Regardless of which model you pick, the steel sporter barrel is nicely polished blued, but the receiver is stellar with its matte nickel finish. The receiver also features high relief engraved flourishes recessed into the metal with a gold Buck Mark on either flank. The forend and stock have 18 lines per inch checkering.

The chamber is chrome plated for durability and reliable feeds. The forend is large and tall with a curved Schnabel front for the forend. The stock has a pronounced raised cheek and a good curve at the pistol grip. Paradoxically, the composite trigger guard is an upside-down trapezoid instead of the usual racetrack oval though the trigger guard’s interior is exactly that. Framed within it, you get the usual gold-plated Browning alloy trigger. The recoil pad is contoured and polymer. The gun has integral steel sling studs in front and back.

The stock is shim adjustable for cast on/off and drop at comb. Length of pull is 13 3/4". Drop at comb is 7/8" while the drop at heel is 1 1/8". The detachable box magazine fits securely through the hinged floorplate.
