The Browning BPS 10-gauge, 12-gauge and 20-gauge pump-actions leverage Browning’s strengths of design, innovation, and more. “BPS” is Browning’s acronym for Best Pump Shotgun. And they’ve now gotten 50 plus years of production from the basic design that’s been enhanced across time. The materials are picked for beauty, strength, decreased weight or combinations thereof. The receiver starts from a solid block of steel that’s forged for extra-strength and to remove imperfections. Then it is machined.

BPS barrels feature Back-Bored Technology for ideal barrel bore diameters to reduce shot deformation for tighter shot patterns. For instance, for 12-gauge, Browning calculates the ideal bore diameter is .742". Thus, it’s used on those guns. It has similar tests and calculations for other gauges.

The BPS comes standard with three medium-length Invector-Plus tubes (Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder).

Atop the barrel you have a floating rib. “Floating” permits the barrel and rib to expand at different rates and thus not bind each other as they expand. This keeps both parts aimed in the same direction! Similarly, heat-treated steel double action bars eliminate twisting and binding, making for faster and smoother slide-action operation.

The stock features a thick, soft, black, recoil absorbing Inflex Recoil Pad. It’s designed for direction deflection pushing the back of the rifle down from your face. Its comfort promotes faster recoil times.

There are many thoughtful touches. Some you’d expect but others might be a surprise. Expected? Both the forend and stock have excellent grip-enhancing checkering that’s in pennant surrounds. For instance, the gun uses an oversized trigger guard that’s glove friendly.

Unexpected? To shorten length of pull, Browning made the BPS with a Trimmable Composite Stock that can be trimmed by up to 3/4" at the straight heel part. The recoil pad can be refitted after the stock is trimmed.

The BPS is ambidextrous. The tang safety placement puts it in easy reach regardless of which hand you use. It has serrations that make it glove friendly as well. Additionally, rather than have a side ejection port, the BPS expends spent casings out through the bottom. Loading is that way too, of course.
