The Browning BT-99 trap gun debuted in 1969 and has delighted users ever since. This quality arm comes in both full size and micro-size. And regardless of dimension or variant within the seven-model lineup, this steel barrel and steel receiver gun looks stellar. The stainless-steel barrel and high-post 11/32” bridged vented rib gleam with resolute permanence. Their lines flow organically into an ensemble that includes the forward tapered beavertail forend, curved pistol grip and the stock with its skeletonized recoil pad that absorbs recoil while looking great.

Except where noted below, BT-99s come standard with three Invector-Plus interchangeable choke tubes, which are Full, Modified and Improved Cylinder (F, M, IC).

The guns feature extractors, so break them open and the empty shell casings await. And while you’re there, note the chrome-plated chamber designed for corrosion resistance and durability.

Inside the barrel, Browning uses its Vector Pro dimensions and back-bored technology, which increases the inside bore to reduce shot deformation and increased patterning resulting in improved accuracy.

The shells are bottom-loaded and use hull ejection, ejecting straight down out of line of sight avoiding distracting the user or soaking the inside in heavy rain. This also furthers ambidextrous usage.

There are seven current production models ranging from the flagship BT-99 Max High Grade down to the BT-99 micro. The spread of features should offer something for almost any Browning fan.

The 12-gauge BT-99 Max High Grade has 32” and 34” barrel variants, plentiful features and the beauty of its luscious gloss oiled Grade V/VI black walnut stock. On top you get an adjustable high-post rib with 50/50 to 100/0 point-of-impact (POI) adjustments. Sighting is via a HiViz Pro Comp fiber-optic front sight and mid-bead. Moving forward, the Max High Grade uses extended Midas Grade choke tubes.

The stock intrigues. For starters, the Graco comb is adjustable. So is the very comfortable GraCoil Recoil Reduction System with a Pachmayr Decelerator XLT recoil pad in back. You can even adjust the butt pad plate for angle and location. The steel trigger guard is polished blued, and the alloy trigger pops visually with its gold plating. Length of pull is 14 3/8”. These are long guns, so the 32” barrel gun measures 49” and weighs 9 pounds 4 ounces while the 34” measure 51” and weighs an ounce more.

The 12-gauge BT-99 Plus - with Ejector is similar albeit with Grade III/IV walnut, a blued ported barrel, a solitary Improved Modified Midas Grade choke tube and an ivory front sight with mid bead. Barrels are also 32” and 34”.

The 12-gauge BT-99 with Adjustable Buttplate and Comb uses Grade I walnut, have an ivory bead front sight and the barrel isn’t ported. Barrels are 32” and 34”.

The BT-99 Micro with Adjustable Buttplate and Comb is like the last gun but with 30” and 32” barrel versions. Browning also shortens length of pull, so these guns measure 46 ½” and 48 ½” and weigh 7 pounds 12 ounces and 7 pounds 13 ounces respectively.

The other models are the BT-99 Micro with Adjustable LOP, standard BT-99 with the fixed Grade I stock and BT-99 Micro with the fixed Grade I stock.
