The Browning Citori 725 Sporting over/under superposed shotgun evolves John M. Browning’s B25 Superposed with modern technology, a cut-down, low-profile engraved steel receiver and more. The gun comes in four gauges: .410 bore, 28 gauge, 12 and 20 gauge. The gun ends in a thick Inflex pad. Pretty much everything else is gloss oil finished black walnut. What else? The gun features a mechanical trigger, a green tube fiber optic atop the muzzle and finely detailed matte checkering on both the forearm and grip.

With that summary, let’s dive into this interesting gun’s details. First, if you look up the word “Citori” to find its Italian roots, you’ll find there are none though it evokes the Italian word cacciatori, meaning hunter. But note, the name is pronounced with a soft “c”, making it sound Japanese, which, in fact, it is!

While Browning is an American original and an extraordinarily iconic brand, it’s actually owned by Belgian FN Herstal. The Citori 725 superposed shotguns are, like many other Brownings, made by Miroku Corporation in Japan.

Both 410 bore and 28-gauge use the Standard Invector Diana choke system. The 12 and 20-gauge models use the Invector-DS choke system. These two latter gauges also have a relay of small circular venting ports on the both flanks of each starting a few inches behind the muzzle. The top barrel per side while the bottom one has ten per side.

The steel barrels are blued. Only 12-gauge and 20- gauge have a 28” barrel model. Its overall length is 46” inches. All four gauges can be had with either a 30” or 32” length barrel. The 30” barrel’s overall length is 48”. With the 32” length barrel, overall length is an imposing 50”.

Weight ranges from the 28” 20-gauge’s 6 pounds 4 ounces up to the 12 gauge 32” barrel model that

tilts the scales at 7 pounds 10 ounces.

The upper barrel is crowned by a vent rib that runs its length. Atop it is a HiViz Pro-Comp front sight. And gun’s choke set includes full, modified, improved modified, improved cylinder and skeet.

The silver nitrided receiver is made of steel. The forearm and stock are gloss oil finished black walnut with 20 LPI checkering. The walnut is Grade III/IV, meaning that it has a medium quantity of beauty and luxury enhancing burls, lines and streaks. Please note: a couple of models feature lighter, honey-colored Turkish walnut instead of the darker black walnut.

At back is a highly acclaimed Inflex 2 recoil pad. Inflex makes its pads to be thick, absorbent and comfortable. But Inflex has also cleverly designed its pads to redirect some of the felt recoil downward. Speaking of the back, the gun’s length of pull is 14 3/4" while drop at comb is 1 9/16" and the drop at heel is 2 3/8". The Citori 725 has many features, but it lacks sling swivel studs.

Moving further down, the steel trigger guard is tough, resilient and has an attractive silver nitride finish. Inside is an alloy gold plated Fire Lite mechanical trigger that’s exclusive to the 725. Rather than use inertial recoil to reset for the second barrel, this trigger resets immediately and purely mechanically preventing the second barrel from not firing. The innovative design features reduced take up, a crisp break and shorter overtravel.

Of course, there are no magazines, so its capacity is two loads, one per barrel. The 3” long chamber is chrome plated.
