The 26” length barrel Browning X-Bolt Pro is accurate, gorgeous and extraordinary. It stands out with stunning burnt bronze looks, wispy lightweight carbon fiber stock and the beauty and details of its fluted barrel, spiral fluted bolt, radial perforated muzzle brake and more.

Among other things, the Browning X-Bolt Pro has designed around portability and light weight. It features a sporter contour barrel that’s accurate, but not heavy. The carbon fiber stock is carbon fiber, and delivers what you would expect: rigidity and light weight. Surprisingly, it’s also filled with a noise-dampening foam.

The stock, barrel and action have a Cerakote spray on finish for looks, durability and wear resistance. The matte burnt bronze coloring is really eye-catching.

Details abound. For perfect fit, the stainless steel receiver is glass epoxy bedded into the stock, and the barrel is free-floated. The gun comes without a scope or other sights, however it is drilled and tapped for X-Lock scope mounts. It also has a block-like raised bolt unlock button atop the gun near the base of the bolt arm. Just behind it is the double-ramp tang safety.

The bolt has elegant spiral grooves. It has a 60-degree throw with an extended bolt that’s optimized for gloved hands. The cylindrical bolt knob is artfully spiral fluted as well. This might shave a trivial amount of weight, but more importantly, it looks great and provides tactile feedback.

The fluted barrel has been engineered to avoid a long break in period. It’s free floating, hand-chambered and has a target crown. The gun comes with both the aforementioned radial muzzle brake and a thread cap for when the brake isn’t in use.

The stock is beautifully textured at the forearm and grip. It also has a palm swell. But the entire stock has a marvelously decorative faux burnished metal texture. There are burnt bronze Cerakoted sling swivel studs exactly where they should be: near the forearm’s front bottom and at the bottom of the butt stock. At back is a thick, comfortable Inflex recoil pad that directs recoil pressure slightly downward.

Moving down, the X-Bolt features an adjustable three lever Feather Trigger. It’s gold-plated, alloy, curved and thin. It has neither creep nor overtravel. It is factory set to 3.5 pounds of pull pressure and screw-adjustable from 3 to 5 pounds. Ammunition is fed via a detachable polymer rotary magazine that docks flush into the bottom just ahead of the trigger guard.

In closing, let’s talk about the various barrel options and their corresponding specifications.

The first five models feature 22” long barrels, a 42” in overall length and weigh 6 pounds 1 ounces. They are the 6 mm Creedmore (1 to 7.5” twist ratio), 6.5 Creedmore (1 to 8”) and 308 Winchester (1 to 12”). The 270 Winchester (1 to 10”) and 30-06 Springfield (1 to 10”) also have 22” long barrels, but measure 42.75” in overall length and weigh 6 pounds 5 ounces.

These five have a 4-round rotary magazine and thus a 4+1 capacity. These magazines dock flush up in the rifle’s belly, and because of their rotary architecture, they load rounds directly above them instead of from an offset angle.

All the rest are 3+1 capacity rifles. The 300 WSM (1 to 10”) has a 23” long barrel, weighs 6 pounds 5 ounces. The 24” long barrel 6.5 PRC (1 to 7”) is in a group of one that measures 44”, weighs 6 pounds 3 ounces.

Finally there is a suite of six (6) 26” long barrel guns that weigh 6 pounds 10 ounces. Each is 46.75” overall. This group counts the 7mm Remington Magnum (1 to 9.5” twist), 28 Nosler (1 to 8”), 30 Nosler (1 to 8”), 300 Winchester Magnum (1 to 10”), 300 Remington UM (1 to 8”) and finally the 300 PRC (1 to 8”).
