CZ USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ceska Zbrojovka a.s. Uhersky Brod (CZUB) of the Czech Republic. The CZ USA story begins in 1936 in the town of Strakonice as a branch of the larger Ceska zbrojovka company. In 1937 Ceska zbrojovka began production on a range of military and civilian arms. The first products were aircraft machine guns, military pistols, and small-bore rifles.
During World War II the plant produced and repaired military firearms. After 1945 the plant returned to producing an equal share of military and civilian arms like the CZ 52 pistol. In 1950 the company became a separate state enterprise that translates to “The Precision Machine Tooling Company" and was reorganized into a number of specialized divisions. In the 1970s and 1980s the company merged with Agrozet Brno and returned to producing arms while also taking over and launching production of reduction gears and driveshaft casings for aircraft engines, and hydraulic powered and controlled attachments for tractors until 1988 when it split from Agrozet Brno.
In 1990 CZ USA returned to full production of arms for hunting and sporting purposes, as well as exports for armed police and military units. In 1991 the production of hydraulic powered and controlled attachments for tractors was discontinued and the new capacities were used primarily to expand the traditional production of recreational arms.
In 1998 CZUB moved its headquarters and warehouse facility from Oakhurst, California to Kansas City, Kansas. CZ Firearms are available through the normal channels through importers/distributers such as Bauska, Action Arms, and Magnum Research.
