Formula: combine AK-47 style with .22 LR chambering. Make in Italy. Result: the Chiappa Firearms RAK-22 semi-automatic. That said, everything else is probably about what you’d expect. It has all wood furniture: thus it enjoys an attractive wood upper and lower forend and wood buttstock. It also has a standard synthetic polymer grip and comes with a pair of .22 LR magazines that fit right up in the magazine well.

The RAK’s blued steel barrel is 17.25” long, has six grooves and a 1 to 16” twist. Overall length is 34.25” and the gun weighs 6.6 pounds. Other metal components also sport a blued finish.

Both the front and rear sights are AK military style adjustable sights. Thus the front can be adjusted for elevation and the rear is adjustable for windage. This is fairly simple, rudimentary technology that simply requires manual twisting for the front and pushing a button for the rear sight. No screwdriver is required.

The manual safety is the standard AK design: it’s a big lever that sights on the right, just above the trigger. The magazine release is where you would expect it and want it: just behind the trigger guard and just before the magwell.
